4th Annual Junior League STEM Expo, Danforth Middle School

April 22, 2016
On Friday Keith Woodard and Luis Vilella left the shop behind to staff a table at the Expo. This year’s event was for 6th-8th grade girls and gave them the opportunity to take part in hands-on activities designed to help increase their interest in the STEM fields. Keith and Luis demonstrated how CNC machining works, how to read a blueprint and they showed the girls a wide variety of cool machined parts.

The keynote address was from Corcoran alumna and NASA Astronaut Dr. Jeanette Epps, who spoke about what she does at NASA, why it’s important and how the young girls can follow in her footsteps.

Learning Opportunity, SME hosts training

February 25, 2016 and March 3, 2016
Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) hosted two nights of instruction in dimensioning and tolerancing. The goal was to increase the attendees’ fluency in, and interpretation of, mechanical drawings. John Campbell, Professor of Engineering Sciences at Cayuga Community College, was the instructor and classes were held at the Technology Garden in downtown Syracuse. Darco sent some employees who enjoyed the chance to leave the shop and do some “hands off” training.
