Melissa Menon joins Darco Manufacturing Inc. as Talent/Community Engagement Manager. Mel brings over 10 years of counseling know-how and experience developing and implementing innovative programs and services in education and workforce access. At Darco, she will spend time determining what resources could add strength to the team. She will also foster relationships between Darco, business partners, community organizations, and education/training programs to inspire interest in manufacturing. Previously, she was the Director of College & Career Access at On Point for College Inc.

Laura Miller was honored to be present at a special luncheon featuring Rear Admiral Rebecca McCormick-Boyle who requested a meeting of women business leaders in the area. The luncheon was hosted by CenterState CEO as part of the Navy Week events in Syracuse. Rear Adm. McCormick-Boyle is currently chief of staff for the US Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery as well as Commander of Navy Medicine Education and Training Command. She was given one of our Darco/MiiCNY (Making it in Central New York) hats.

Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) hosted a tour of Marquardt Switches, Inc. in Cazenovia. Marquardt employs over 8500 employees globally, 400 of them in the Cazenovia location. The company is a leading global supplier for the automotive, off-road, truck, power tool, industrial and domestic goods business sectors. Operations Manager Kirk Wardell and two colleagues each led a group through the plant. It was a fascinating tour followed by pizza and wings.

Stan Linhorst’s weekly panel discussion was held on the stage of the restored Persian Terrace at the Hotel Syracuse. Stan moderated as Ed Riley, owner of the hotel, discussed his motivations, challenges and rewards during the massive restoration. He was joined by Laura Miller, General Manager of Darco and Mark Roberts, co-founder of Staff Leasing. Each talked about how they have taken risks, overcome adversity and risen to leadership positions. The crowd of over 125 was enthusiastic and no doubt looking forward to the hotel’s upcoming grand opening.
